BLM FISHERIES NEW MEXICOPlaya Lakes
Playa lakes within the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument were monitored for aquatic invertebrates, amphibian diversity, water quality, and aquatic habitat. Surveys were conducted in the late spring/early summer when playas were filled with snow melt and again in the fall when the playas were inundated by monsoonal rains. The objectives of the surveys are to characterize the community assemblages of the playas and earthen tanks and describe landscape and island biogeographic characteristics of the playa ecosystem.
